Men’s Basketball Outlasts Greenville in High Scoring Contest on Friday

GREENVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 11, 2022) – First team to 100 points wins on Friday night, and the Loras College men's basketball team did just that as the Duhawks took down the high-scoring Greenville University Panthers 120-92 in a hostile road matchup.

The Duhawks (1-1) knew that Friday would be all about points, and they managed to beat the Panthers (0-1) at their own game by claiming a 28-point victory that saw an unprecedented seven Duhawks score in double figures.

Sophomore guard Tyler Bass sank the first jumper of the game for the Duhawks just a few second into the game. That shot got the ball rolling as the Duhawks quickly built a 25-8 lead within the game's first five minutes.

A solid run from the Panthers cut the lead to five with under five minutes to play in the half, but the Duhawks got hot again and rattled off a 16-4 run to head into halftime with a 56-39 lead. The margin and never got back to single digits as the Duhawks shot their way to their first win of the season.

Sophomore guard Ali Sabet and sophomore forward Alex Singleton paced the balanced Loras offense with 23 points each. That number fell just one shy of a career-high for Singleton after he tallied 24 in the game versus Greenville last season.

Singleton finished 8-for-10 shooting from the floor while Sabet led the team by going 8-for-10 at the free throw line. As a team, the Duhawks converted 33of their 46 attempts from the line, good enough for a 71.7 percent clip.

Declan Ciurlik (15), Bass, (14), Zach Deering (13), Myles Barry (11), and Jared Pearson (10) each reached double-digit scoring as well. The final figures mark career-highs for Deering and Pearson while Barry tied his previous career-high.

Loras stays on the road for its next contest, which will be next Saturday, Nov. 19 at Principia College at 3 P.M. in Elash, Ill.
