AURORA, Ill. (Nov. 13, 2022) – Another stout team performance from No. 22 Loras College men's cross country has them well-positioned to earn a berth in next weekend NCAA Division III National Championships as the Duhawks placed third in Saturday's Midwest Region Championship race.
Senior
Luke Guttormson paced the Duhawks and earned a top-five finish as an individual, guaranteeing himself a spot in next week's national championships. Guttormson's 25:17.2 finial time was only 13 seconds behind the race-winning time from Wartburg College's Christopher Collet.
No. 3 North Central College and No. 5 Wartburg were the only two teams to top Loras on Saturday. Senior
Wyatt Kelly helped Guttormson lead the charge as he placed 15
th in the race with a 25:26.8.
Junior
Ryan Harvey was also not far behind as he finished 23
rd overall with a 25:25.3. Behind him came sophomore
Julian Watson (32
nd – 25:44.7) and junior
Carlo Dannenfelser (37
th – 26:03.0) to round out Loras' top five.
Guttormson, Kelly, Harvey, and Watson each earned All-Region honors with their finishes.
Sophomore
Jacob Belha finished inside the top 50 in a field of 230 as his 26:06.4 was good enough for 43
rd place.
Loras will not wait and see if its performance on Saturday was good enough to earn an at-large berth into next week's NCAA Division III National Championships in Lansing Mich., on Saturday, Nov. 19. The official selections for the meet are schedule to be released on NCAA.com tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 P.M. central time.
