SAU Takes Down Loras in Saturday Swimming Action

November 13, 2022

DAVENPORT, Iowa (Nov. 12, 2022) – Loras College's swimming and diving teams got tested on the road on Saturday as the Duhawks squared off with a pair of top-10 programs from Saint Ambrose University as the Bees swept both matches at the Davenport Central Natatorium.

The Duhawk men fell 158-40 to the Bees, who entered as the third-ranked team in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) while the women were topped 152-30 by the ninth-ranked Bees.

Junior Brad LaGrange came the closes of any Duhawk to claiming a race win on Saturday as his battle with SAU's Ryan Joehl came down to the end in the 100-yard freestyle. Joehl ultimately got to the wall by just a second over LaGrange, who clocked a season-best 50.59 in his runner-up effort.

Freshman Caden Gillmore joined LaGrange as top-two finisher in the lanes as he finished his 500-yard freestyle race in 5:16.71 to place second behind SAU's Leo Edwards, who clocked a 5:06.54. Junior diver Gannon Harrington also placed second in the one-meter diving event.

Senior Nina Schiro earned two runner-up finishes for the Duhawk women as she did so in each the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races. In the 200-yard freestyle, Schiro clocked a season-best 2:07.52 to finish just three seconds behind SAU's Lauren Williams.

Junior Annie Quinn was just a split second away from a win in the quick 50-yard freestyle race. Her time of 26.53 was as close as it gets as she finished second to SAU's Rylie Steinkamp, who got to the wall in 26.17.

Loras will hit the road again next weekend on Saturday, Nov. 19 when the Duhawks face off with Grinnell College at 1 P.M.
