Nov. 16, 2022 – Opening night was quite the show for the No. 13 Loras College wrestling team as the Duhawks got the home slate started with a convincing 42-8 victory over an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) foe in Buena Vista University.
The Duhawks (1-0) won eight of the 10 bouts on Wednesday night at the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center to run away with a sizable victory over the Beavers (0-1) to start the season 1-0 in dual matches and 1-0 in the A-R-C.
Of Loras' eight wins, all but one came via a fall or a tech fall as the Duhawks flew through the match in just about an hour's time. The only Duhawk win that didn't include an early stoppage came in the 174-lb bout that saw senior
Tad Griffith earn a steady 10-4 decision.
Graduate student
Mason McMillen, freshman
Eric Kinkaid, and junior
Daniel Meeker each earned tech fall victories at their respective weight classes to help set the table for four Duhawk victories by fall over the last five matchups.
Freshman
Dustin Bohren and seniors
Shane Liegel,
Colin Murphy, and
Wyatt Wriedt all claimed victory by fall to close out a dominating evening for the home team. Wriedt's victory came just one minute and eight seconds into the 285-lb match to make it the quickest match of the evening.
Loras will hit the road again for another open event this Saturday, Nov. 19 at the CUW Open hosted by Concordia University Wisconsin. Action in Mequon, Wis. begins at 9 A.M.
