No. 21 Duhawks Place 20th at NCAA Division III National Championship

November 19, 2022

LANSING, Mich. (Nov. 19, 2022) – The 21st-ranked Loras College men's cross country team wrapped up yet another solid season on Saturday morning as the Duhawks competed at the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship for the second straight season and finished top-20 in the country in 2022.

The Duhawks finished ahead of three teams who entered the meet ranked ahead of them in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings to place one spot higher than the rankings would project. The top-20 finish also marks a nine-spot improvement after the team placed 29th in last season's championship meet.

Luke Guttormson led Loras yet again and placed 62nd in the field of more than 290 runners at the snow-covered Forest Akers Golf Course in Lansing, Mich. on Saturday morning. Guttormson scored 50 team points for Loras and clocked a 25:51.6 to improve his finishing position by 86 spots compared to his finish in 2021.

Ryan Harvey was near the upper third of the field as well as he came home in 119th place with a 26:11.4 in the 8k race. Julian Watson was just about five seconds behind his teammate and finished in the top half of the field in 139th place with a time of 26:16.6.

Carlo Dannenfelser (162nd – 26:24.7) and Jacob Belha (182nd – 26:32.0) rounded out the scoring for the Duhawks while Will Whalen (210th – 26:45.4) and Wyatt Kelly (283rd – 28:00.0) finished out the Loras representation in the race.

The No. 21 Duhawks finish another successful season with a lot to be proud of. In addition to the top-20 finish nationally, they also earned the at-large bid by way of a third-place finish at the Midwest regionals and earned runner-up finishes at each the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Championship and the National Catholic Championship.
