MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (Dec. 8, 2022) – The 14
th-ranked Loras College wrestling team got back to form on Thursday night as the Duhawks cruised to a 35-3 road win over the Cornell College Rams.
The Duhawks (2-1) suffered their first dual loss of the season last Thursday in a well-contested dual with second-ranked Augsburg University and used that as motivation to get back in the win column this week against the Rams (3-1).
This one got off to an exciting start as Duhawk senior
Jared Hensley pushed his 125-lb bout into overtime before securing a takedown of Cornell's Jase Van Pelt to score an 8-6 sudden victory.
That win for Hensley led off a run of three straight decision victories for the Duhawks as juniors
Aiden Evans and
Reis Ginter claimed their matches before junior
Jalen Schropp cruised to a 10-2 major decision win to make it 13-0 in favor of Loras.
Those matched led into junior
Daniel Meeker claiming a 6-4 sudden victory win at 157-lbs, and then the Duhawks really started to pour it on.
Senior
Gabe Fiser notched his first victory by fall midway through his second round ahead of major decision victories for seniors
Tad Griffith at 174-lbs and Shane Liegal at 184-lbs. Senior heavyweight
Wyatt Wriedt capped off the evening with a pin just two minutes into his bout to lock down another convincing victory for the Duhawks at a 35-3 final.
Loras has now won four straight head-to-heads over the Rams with the last Duhawk defeat coming back in January of 2016.
The Duhawks hit the mats next Saturday, Dec. 17 for tournament-style wrestling at the Kalahari Duals in Sandusky, Ohio starting at 9 A.M. ET.
