DECORAH, Iowa (Feb. 13, 2021) - The Loras College men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished out their 2021-22 campaign in Decorah, Iowa at the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Swimming and Diving Invitational, hosted by Luther College. Junior
Nina Schiro earned a first place finish for the Duhawks in the women's 200-yard backstroke, claiming A-R-C Invitational Champion accolades.
In the men's 1-meter diving event, senior
Nicholas Schlader placed third out of seven divers, finishing with a final score of 314.80. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Annie Quinn,
Kinsey Bogen,
Molly Strohmeyer and Schiro took third in the event after posting a final time of 1:44.32. On the men's side,
Kevin McMillan,
Brad LaGrange,
Austin Jorgensen and
Charles Holmes also took third with a time of 1:31.91.
The Duhawks saw more success in their relay teams with Schiro,
Artie Kerchmar, Strohmeyer and Bogen taking third in the women's 400-yard medley relay with a finals time of 4:18.26 while the men also took third in the event with McMillan,
Brian Day,
Zach Nelson, and LaGrange finishing in 3:45.33.
The third day of the meet saw
Ellianna Stine finish third in the 400-yard individual medley with a final time of 5:44.05 while Nelson also finished third in the men's race with a time of 4:35.27. The men's 100-yard breaststroke featured Loras'
Payton Markowski, who finished third in the event with a final time of 1:02. 52. Schiro continued to excel for the Duhawks, taking second in the women's 100-yard backstroke with time of 1:00.09, narrowly being edged by Luther's Margaret Petellin who finished in 59.99.
In the second diving event of the weekend, the 3-meter dive, Schlader placed third with a final score of 295.55.
In the final day of competition, Schiro earned A-R-C Invitational Champion status in the 200-yard backstroke with a final time of 2:11.45, beating Nebraska Wesleyan's Esme Sipp by almost four seconds. Schiro's time places her third all time in the event in program history.
The Duhawks finished the weekend with the women's team scoring 244 points and finishing fifth, narrowly behind Simpson College who placed third with 245.5 points. On the men's side, the Duhawks placed third with 357 points.
