Feb. 4, 2022 - The No. 1 Loras College wrestling team (11-0, 6-0 A-R-C) won its eleventh-straight dual of the year as they took on their cross-town rival, the University of Dubuque (4-7, 1-4 A-R-C), defeating the Spartans 37-6 on Friday night.

The dual got started with Colin Murphy in the 197 lb. matchup, defeating Tyler Thurston in a 12-4 major decision. At the heavyweight matchup, Dubuque's Robert Melise got the Spartans on the board with a win by fall, giving the Spartans their only lead of the night, ahead 6-4.

The Duhawks followed with three-straight decisions seeing No. 11 Jared Hensley defeat Cade Hornback in a tight 2-0 decision at 125 lbs., Aiden Evans taking the 133 lbs. bout against Carson Sauriol in an 8-3 decision, and No. 14 Jalen Schropp defeating Anthony Urrea, 4-2, at 141 lbs. to give the Duhawks a 13-6 lead.

In the 149 lbs. matchup, No. 9 Daniel Ruiz took a major decision over Jessy Diaz 13-1 before No. 7 Zeke Smith took a 6-0 shutout decision at 157 lbs. over Zarik Anderson. No. 14 Gabe Fiser then defeated Nicco Mazzanti by tech fall 20-5 at 165 lb. to extended the Duhawk lead, 25-6 with two bouts remaining.

The Duhawks ended the night with back-to-back pins at 174 lb. with No. 3 Jacob Krakow pinning Pilo Perez in 0:57 and No. 2-ranked Shane Liegel defeating Terrin Rackouski at 184 lb. in 2:33, ending the night with a final score of 37-6 and extending a five-year winning streak against the rival down the road.

The Duhawks return home Friday, Feb. 11 and host No. 6 Wartburg College in a highly anticipated dual, set to start at 7:00 PM inside the Lillis Athletic & Wellness Center. Doors for the dual open one hour prior to the first match and fans are reminded to adhere to Loras' health and safety guidelines posted inside the facility.
