LEESBURG, Fla. (Mar. 19, 2022) -Â The Loras College softball team (13-1, 0-0 ARC) ended their trip to THE Spring Games with a pair of wins Saturday afternoon, going against the Knox College Prairie Fire (1-10, 0-0 Midwest) and Kalamazoo College Hornets (5-3, 0-0 MIAA), winning both to earn their 13th win of the season.

The Duhawks started hot in game one with
Ellie Schill leading off the bottom of the first inning with a double into left center.
Abby Jones laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Schill to third before
Grace Houghton drove Schill in on a RBI single into center field to give the Duhawks a 1-0 lead.
Morgan Machovec replaced Houghton on the bases, stealing second base before
Jadyn Anderson singled into center field to advance Machovec to third. Anderson stole second base to set up
Ashlyn Hemm for a 2 RBI single into right field to extend the lead to 3-0.

Claire Peachey started off the bottom of the second inning, sending a double into right center field, bringing in
Hannah Wubben as a pinch runner.
Emily Monahan laid down a bunt single, advancing Wubben to third, and eventually stealing second to set up Schill for a RBI double down the left field line to bring home Wubben and advance Monahan to third to bring the score to 4-0. Jones then hit a deep drive to left center, bringing home Monahan to extend the lead 5-0, advancing to second on the throw home and getting Schill to third. Machovec kept the hits going, hitting a single into right to score two runs, adding to the lead at 7-0. Claire Murphy singled into right, leading to a double steal from both Machovec and Murphy, putting them on second and third. Hemm drew a walk to load the bases for pinch hitter
Alyssa Hughes. Hughes singled into left, bringing home Machovec to end the scoring for the day for the Duhawks, at 8-0.

Hemm got the win, pitching two shutout innings before
Shandi Rulli came in relief, keeping the shutout going, allowing only two hits.

The Duhawks then met up with the Hornets from Kalamazoo College in game two. The game was silent, with each team only having two hits and no runs until the top of the sixth inning.

Monahan hit the slow roller to third base to reach on a single, advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Schill all the way to third on the throw. Jones drove in the only run of the game on a single to third base, bringing home Monahan to give the Duhawks a 1-0 lead.

Hemm threw a complete game shutout, only allowing two hits and striking out eight.

The Duhawks will have a week's rest, before traveling to Chicago to take on both University of Wisconsin-River Falls and North Park University on March 26. The first game is set to start at 2 PM.
