Apr. 11, 2022 – A strong weekend of performances at the University of Dubuque Open yielded a trio of American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Athlete of the Week honors for the Loras College track and field teams as the No. 19 men's team swept the honors with the 4-by-400-meter relay and
Holden Murphy while the No. 4 women's team's 4-by-400-meter relay collected the Women's Track Performer of the Week nods.
Murphy excelled in three events over the weekend and led the Duhawks' throwing cohort with a first place finish in the discus, throwing the second-farthest toss in Division III this season at 50.88 meters and ranking third in program history. He also finished second in the shot put (13.93 meters) and hammer throw (51.06 meters) with his hammer mark ranking eighth in program history. This is the Benton, Wis. native's first outdoor track and field performer honor of his career.
The men's relay of
Josh Smith,
Ted Kruse,
Carter Oberfoell and
Mike Jasa raced their way to the top of the descending order list in the 4-by-400-meter relay, running a nation-leading mark of 3:14.36 to win the event. Both Murphy's and the relay's performance were among the achievements that led the Duhawks to a second place finish at the meet.
The women's 4-by-400-meter relay also ran the nation's fastest time this season with
Stevie Lambe,
Elayna Bahl,
Marion Edwards and
Alyssa Pfadenhauer. The quartet, running for the first time this outdoor season since winning the national title in the event indoors in March, ran 3:46.01 and holds a four-second lead over the second-ranked team nationally. The Duhawks won the meet on Saturday and continue to build momentum this outdoor season.
The Duhawks will host the Easter Midweek Meet on Wednesday, Apr. 13 with throwing events beginning at noon and track events starting at 1:00 P.M. The hammer throw and shot put will take place at the University of Dubuque with javelin and discus at Loras. Â
