July 19, 2022 – The Loras College men's basketball team collected academic honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Tuesday with three student-athletes earning Honors Court distinction and the Duhawks earning the recognition as one of 200 institutions to earn Academic Excellence honors. Rowan McGowen ('21, M'22) and
Griffen Clark ('22) as well as rising senior
Jordan Wendt each earned Honors Court nods. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a junior, senior or graduate student on the 2021-22 eligibility list and hold a 3.2 GPA or higher.
McGowen finished his historic career as a Duhawk as the program's all-time leading three-point shooter with 298 three-pointers in 119 games as a five-year member of the team and ranks seventh all-time in points with 1,644. A native of Wheaton, Ill., McGowen earned a bachelor's degree in finance and a master's degree in data analytics. He was also the program's first two-time College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) Academic All-District award winner and a two-time American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) First Team All-Conference selection. Â
Clark was a two-year member for Duhawk, scoring 200 points in 27 games in 2021-22 as a key contributor off the bench. A native of Fairfax, Iowa with a bachelor's degree in engineering, Clark was also one of the Duhawks' top three-point shooters with 52 on the season. Wendt, a native of Marinette, Wis. majoring in marketing, appeared in five games this past season and tallied four points while grabbing two rebounds and dishing one assist.
McGowen and Clark each earned their second-career honors while Wendt collected his first.
The Duhawks also earned the program's first Academic Excellence team award for holding a team GA of 3.0 or higher this past season. On the court, the Duhawks posted a record of 18-9 and 9-7 in A-R-C games behind a veteran group of returners and will look to an talented team with depth for another successful campaign in 2022-23. The Duhawks open the season at home against Concordia University Chicago on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7 P.M. and begin A-R-C action on Wednesday, Nov. 23 against Simpson College.
