Denise Udelhofen ('90/ M '92) announced the hiring of
Matt Romer as the next head coach for the men's and women's golf teams. Romer comes to Loras with more than 20 years of playing and professional experience.
"We are excited to have Matt join the Loras athletic staff—his knowledge of the game of golf will serve our golfers well," said Udelhofen. "He is passionate about coaching our golf teams and working with our student athletes on and off the course."
Romer attended Coastal Carolina University and graduated with his bachelor's degree in physical education. While in Myrtle Beach, S.C., he became a PGA golf professional and was the head golf professional at Quail Creek Golf Club. He also worked as one of the lead instructors at Steve Dresser Golf Academy, a Golf Digest top 25 golf school.
Following his time out East, Romer moved back to his Midwestern roots and worked his ways through the ranks at Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, eventually becoming the Director of Golf. His most recent spot landed him as the General Manager at Platteville Golf & Country Club.
A native of Springfield, Ill., Romer resides in Galena with his wife Melissa and three children Kellyn, Roman and Brant.
