Swim and Dive Tops Ripon College in Season Opener

RIPON, Wis. – The Loras College Duhawk men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Ripon College Saturday afternoon in the program's season opener. The men defeated the Red Hawks by a score of 102-85, while the women won at 104-101.

In total, the Duhawks collected 11 wins over the 24 events, with the women capturing six and the women with five.

On the men's side, freshman Gabriel Ibanez had two victories in his collegiate debut, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle and helping the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Caden Gillmore, Austin Jorgensen, and Brad LaGrange to victory. Gillmore, a sophomore out of Greeley, Colo. also won two events, with his second coming in the 200-yard freestyle. Lagrange matched the two with a second win of the day in the 100-yard freestyle. Meanwhile, Brian Day won the 100-yard breaststroke at a time of 1:04.03.

For the women, it was Maria Eide and Annie Quinn leading the way with two wins each. Eide won the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle, while Quinn captured victories in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles. Emma Nelson won the 100-yard butterfly, while a foursome of Laney Edgeton, Grace VanPettenEllianna Stine, and Alyssa Frye won the 200 medley relay at a mark of 46.32.

UP NEXT: The Duhawks are back in the pool on Saturday, Oct. 28 when the program hosts Simpson College. Events get underway at 1 p.m. inside the Sane Jose Pool.
