DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Loras College Duhawk wrestling team competed in its first home dual of the season against Cornell College on Thursday night, defeating the Rams, 21-19, inside of the Lillis Athletic & Wellness Center.
After dropping the first two matches, the Purple and Gold got on the board with a 3-1 decision win at 141 lbs by sophomore
Nosa Egbon.
At 149 pounds, sophomore
Eric Kinkaid kept the momentum rolling as he racked up a 17-2 technical fall victory to put the Duhawks up by a point through the first four matches.
The Rams regained the lead after a win at 157 lbs, but back-to-back-to-back victories by
Ben Faber (16-6 major decision at 165 lbs),
Dustin Bohren (pin at 174 lbs), and
Zeb Gnida (7-4 decision at 184 lbs) gained Loras some much needed team points as the program pulled ahead 21-10.
Cornell won the last two matches, but it wasn't enough as the Duhawks earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Loras returns to action next weekend when the program travels to Sandusky, Ohio for the Kalahari Duals. Action is set to get underway on Dec. 16.
