LINCOLN, Neb. – The Loras College women's basketball team secured a dominant road victory, 68-40, over Nebraska Wesleyan University inside Snyder Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Duhawks raced out to a 13-0 lead, holding the Prairie Wolves scoreless in the first five minutes of the contest. Loras (5-2 overall, 2-1 A-R-C) went into the locker room with a 29-point lead at the half.
The Purple and Gold increased its lead to as many as 38 points midway through the third period, despite the fact that Nebraska Wesleyan (0-7, 0-3) outscored the Duhawks 28-27 in the second half.
The Prairie Wolves offense was distributed evenly between Grace Hogeland and Alison Davis and Nella Castaneda who scored seven points apiece. Davis and Castaneda also added five rebounds to their stat lines. As a team, Nebraska Wesleyan shot 27.5 percent (14-of-51) from the floor and connected just twice from behind the arc (13.3 percent).
Claire Wagner led the Duhawks offense finishing with a double-double, which featured 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Madison Fleckenstein contributed nine points and two steals, while
Silvana Scarsella scored eight points. Loras shot 32.8 percent (22-of-67) from the field, 29.7 percent (11-of-37) from downtown and took advantage of the 16 Prairie Wolves turnovers to account for 19 of their total points.
