Women's Basketball Victorious Over Nebraska Wesleyan, 65-36

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The No. 21 Loras College Duhawks defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University 65-36 on Saturday afternoon inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.  
 
Nebraska Wesleyan (0-16 overall, 0-11 American Rivers Conference) jumped out to an 8-3 lead, but a Madison Haslow three-pointer put the Duhawks within a basket with five minutes left of play in the first. Silvana Scarsella scored back-to-back field goals at the end of the first quarter to give the Duhawks a 14-8 advantage over the Prairie Wolves.  
  
Loras (16-2, 8-1) would not let Nebraska Wesleyan get back into the game, doubling their lead with a Madison Fleckenstein three-pointer early in the second quarter. The Duhawks maintained at least a ten-point cushion the rest of the quarter, heading into the half up 26-15. 
 
The Prairie Wolves went on a 7-2 run to start the second half, cutting the Loras lead to six, but with two baskets from Daniella Jarrell and one from Emerson Whittenbaugh, the lead went back up to 16.  In the final minute of the third period, Nebraska Wesleyan scored three baskets to put the score at 47-28. 
 
The final quarter saw the Duhawks run away with the game not allowing a Prairie Wolf basket until there was 3:35 remaining. Loras outscored the visitors 19-8 in the final period of the contest to secure their 12th consecutive victory. 
 
Nebraska Wesleyan's Brianna Denton led all scorers with 12 points. She also added five rebounds, one assist, and one steal to her stat line. Ellie Bream and Joy Rippen combined for 12 points, three rebounds, and one assist. As a team, the Prairie Wolves shot 27.7 percent (13-of-47) from the floor and 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from behind the arc. 
 
Whittenbaugh led the way for the Duhawk offense finishing with 11 points and six rebounds. Jarrell followed closely behind with nine points, while Fleckenstein put up eight points and pulled down eight boards. Loras shot 35.0 percent (21-of-60) from the field and 33.3 percent (13-of-39) from downtown.    

 
Up next:The Duhawks will travel to Waverly to take on the No.10 Wartburg College Knights this Wednesday, Jan. 31st at 5:30 p.m.
