Haslow Leads Loras to 97-46 Victory at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team started off 2024 with a 97-46 win over Buena Vista University on Wednesday evening inside Siebens Fieldhouse.

The Duhawks raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first four minutes of the contest, before the Beavers put themselves on the board with a basket by Abby Nagel.

At halftime the Purple and Gold held a 58-25 advantage over the home team and added 39 points in the second half to cruise to their third conference victory of the season.

Madison Haslow paced the Loras (11-2 overall, 3-1 American Rivers Conference) offense throughout the course of the game, finishing with a game-high 24 points. The Crystal Lake, Ill. native tied the school record for three-pointers in a single contest by shooting 8-of-11 from behind the arc. No Duhawk had met that record in over 20 years as the last athlete to do so was Erin Boxleiter against Clarke University back in 2003. Haslow added four rebounds, a pair of blocks and a trio of steals and assists to her stat line as well.

Silvana Scarsella shot 8-of-10 from the floor, which featured 4-of-5 from downtown to total 20 points in 21 minutes of action. Sami Martin was the final Duhawk to finish in double figures. Martin added in 13 points to go along with eight boards and four assists. As a team, Loras shot 52.2 percent (35-of-67) from the field, which included 16-of-33 (48.5 percent) from deep. The Duhawks scored 40 of their 97 points by capitalizing on the 28 turnovers the Beavers accumulated.

Buena Vista (1-10, 0-4) was led by Nagel who totaled 11 points and four rebounds. CJ Long followed closely behind with seven points, while Danika Demers and McKenna Cone contributed seven points apiece in the loss.

Up Next: Loras begins a three-game homestand on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2:00 p.m. against the Central College Dutch.
