Bourne, Belha, and Watson Garner All-Region Honors as Duhawks Place Fourth at NCAA Division III Midwest Regional

November 17, 2024

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Loras College men's cross country team raced at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at Saukie Golf Course this afternoon.

Headlining for the Duhawks was Isaac Bourne who finished in 11th place with a time of 24:46.7 which ranks him ninth all-time as a Duhawk.

Julian Watson and Jacob Belha were next to finish for the Purple and Gold. Watson came in 26th place with a finish of 25:12.7 while Belha came in 29th with a time of 25:16.9. These trio of Duhawks garnered All-Region honors, the first of which for Bourne, the third honor for Watson, and the second honor for Belha.

Head coach Ethan Adlfinger has hopes that the performance from the men is enough to secure them an at large bid to nationals.

"The Midwest region is always one of the most competitive in Division III, so we knew we needed to have a good day to qualify. A top four finish based on some rankings was a realistic spot I could see us finishing at and would be enough to earn a bid for nationals."

Carlo Dannenfelser was the next Duhawk to finish for the Duhawks, he came in 40th place with a time of 25:31.3.

Concluding the runners for Loras was Jack Beehler (25.:39.6 – 45th), Eric Rutherford (25:52.1 – 50th), and Landis Musser (26:25.9 – 72nd)

Despite the conditions, Adlfinger was pleased with how his team ran at today's race.

"High winds made for difficult conditions, but I was very happy with how the men moved up during the race. They were patient early, sitting in 8th at the mile and moved up to 6th, but within 10-15 points of 4th, with about a mile to go. Our 3-5 Belha, Dannenfelser, and Beehler really did an excellent job of catching points in the last mile."

This group of runners is a mature and experienced group that is peaking at the right time. The Duhawks will now wait and see if the program's performance on Saturday was enough to punch their ticket to the NCAA Division III National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 23.
