CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Four Duhawks from three different programs were named American Rivers Conference Athletes of the Week in their respective sports as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Daniel Giusto picked up the Special Teams Player of the Week title after an impressive game punting the football. The Mokena, Ill. native punted eight times on Saturday for 344 total yards, averaging 43 yards per punt. He also registered a 66-yard punt and pinned the Dutch inside the 20-yard line four times.
The Duhawks welcome Nebraska Wesleyan University to the Rock Bowl for their final home game of the 2024 season on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
Anna Durak earned the first Swimmer of the Week award of her career after shattering two school records and setting a new conference record in the Duhawks 131-89 victory over Coe College on Saturday. The Hickory, N.C. native etched her name into the Loras College swimming history book, following record-breaking races in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle. She erased a 2007 record (2:11.16) in the butterfly by .93 seconds to set the new A-R-C record in the event with a time of 2:10.23. She followed that performance up by breaking the previous 2015 record (1:56.60) in the freestyle by 1.4 seconds (1:55.20).
The Purple and Gold host Iowa Central Community College and Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
For the third time this season, members of the Loras women's soccer team have swept the A-R-C Player of the Week awards.
Lauren Riggle was named Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career after scoring a goal and recording an assist in the final regular season match over Central College last week. She netted home the second goal of the night, while adding an assist to the third goal in the 3-0 win over the Dutch to win the A-R-C Regular Season title for the fourth straight year. The Amana, Iowa native has scored 11 goals on the season and has tallied five assists.
Kyndal Kells captured her sixth career Defensive Player of the Week accolade this week. She helped the Duhawks claim their 16th shutout of the year in the 3-0 win over Central on Tuesday. The Red Oak, Iowa native is a key member of the Loras defense, who tallied one save on one shot faced in the match against the Dutch to keep her save percentage at 1.000. This year she has held 15 opponents scoreless and currently holds the record for most career shutouts with 47.
The Duhawks welcome Central back to the Rock Bowl on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. for an A-R-C semifinal matchup.
