DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's volleyball dropped a heartbreaking five-set match to Coe College on Wednesday evening inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Kohawks broke the final tie at 23-23 in the opening set with back-to-back points from Maddie Harris, who registered a kill and service ace, to give Coe (21-7, 7-1 A-R-C) a 25-23 set one win.
The visitors posted a 6-0 run midway through set two to take a 21-13 lead. The Duhawks responded to the Kohawks largest lead of the set (23-14) with a 7-1 run of their own to put them back within three (24-21). A kill from Maggie Furlong sealed the set two victory (25-21) for Coe.
Loras (15-13, 4-4) controlled set three from the opening serve and never looked back. The Duhawks held the Kohawks to just 10 points and closed out the set on a 9-0 run to avoid the sweep and take the set by a score of 25-10.
The Purple and Gold used a 4-0 run early on in set four to break the final tie at 7-7. The Duhawks led by as many as five multiple times throughout the set and weathered the attempted comeback from Coe, always maintaining at least a two-point lead. A block by
Kyra Kuehn secured the 25-22 set four victory for Loras.
The Duhawks rattled off five straight points in the final set to take an 11-7 lead, but the Kohawks answered back with a 4-0 run to tie things up at 11-11. After some back-and-forth play, Coe broke the 16-16 tie with a 3-1 run to take the set, 19-17.
As a team, the Duhawks hit .354, finishing with 68 kills and 12 errors in 158 attempts.
Cat Meyer led the way for Loras, putting down 20 kills on the night.
Autumn Finch totaled 18 kills, hit .552 percent and tallied six blocks, while
Patrycja Jarzabek added in 14 kills.
Sara Hoskins dished out 58 assists, while
Lucie Lambe recorded a team-high 16 digs.
