CANYON, Texas – A contingent of Loras' men's and women's track and field team took to the Lone Star State to partake in the fourth annual Jo Meaker Classic and Multi over Thursday and Friday.
Emma Seipel shattered Loras' long jump record, as the junior leaped for 6.11 meters (20-0.5), which is the best mark in all of Division III and placed her seventh all-time in the NCAA record books. She would also go on to help the 4x100 meter relay team to a second place finish (46.79), giving the squad the second fastest time in the country.
Seipel's time of 11.95 in the 100 meter dash placed her third all-time on Loras' top-10 list, while also finishing the day as the sixth-fastest time in the country.
Grace Alley, coming off one of the most memorable indoor seasons in program history, was the top Division III finisher in the heptathlon at 5,233 points, the highest mark on the outdoor performance list. The Seneca, Ill. native finished first in the shot put (12.02m/39-5.25), 800 meters (2:21.9), and 200 meter with a personal best mark of 25.23.
Harmony Creasy competed individually the 100 meter, 200 meter, and long jump, while also competing as part of the 4x100 meter squad. In the long jump, she jumped 5.81 meters (19-0.75), placing her second nationally to Seipel. Her time of 12.19 in the 100 meter dash placed her 14
th in the country.
Alyssa Pfadenhauer opened up her outdoor season by running 57.62 in the 400 meter race, finishing 12
th against the field but placing her atop of the American Rivers Conference with her finish.
Meghan McDonald, competing in her first collegiate outdoor meet, raced in the 100 meter, 200 meter, and as part of the 4x100 meter relay. Her best individual finish came in the 100 meter dash, where the Dubuque native placed 22
nd with a time of 12.58.
Holden Murphy represented the Duhawks on the men's side, competing in the hammer, shot put, and discus. He placed himself within the top-10 nationally in both the discus and hammer, as the Benton, Wis. native finished second in each event. His discus throw of 48.94 meters (160-7) placed him eighth against the NCAA, while his best hammer throw mark of 57.44 meters (188-5) matched his national placement. Murphy would go on to close out the day with a toss of 15.64 meters (51-3.75) in the shot put, earning him second place.
The Loras track and field program will have a busy Saturday as steeplechasers will head to Waverly, Iowa to compete in the Wartburg Select, while others will head over to the University of Dubuque for the Mississippi River Rumble.
