CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Loras College men's wrestling team started the second half of its season at the NWCA National Duals on Jan. 10-11.
The Duhawks started their tournament with a 28-10 win over Adrian College in the prelims, winning 7-of-10 matches. The Purple and Gold had decisions by
Nosa Egbon (141 lbs),
Eric Kinkaid (157 lbs), and
Dustin Bohren (165 lbs).
Chase Fiser (149 lbs) and
Zeb Gnida (174 lbs) collected major decisions, while
Alex Watson (197 lbs) teched his opponent and
Sage Walker (Hwt) pinned his.
In the first round, Loras dropped a close one, 19-15, to No. 7-ranked Castleton University. The two teams went back-and-forth, exchanging wins through the first seven weights. With the Duhawks up 15-10, the Spartans unfortunately pulled through late as they won the last three matches.
The Purple and Gold rebounded with a 26-12 victory against The University of Olivet in the first round of the consolations.
Aiden Evans (133 lbs) and
Jackson Van Keuren (Hwt) picked up decisions, while
Connor Fiser (125 lbs), Kinkaid, Bohren, and Gnida all had tech falls.
Loras ran into another tough team as they lost to No. 6-ranked Baldwin Wallace University, 21-15, to end the first day. Egbon (15-7 major),
Chase Fiser (10-3 decision), Gnida (4-0 decision), and Walker (15-0 tech) obtained wins for the Duhawks.
With two duals set for the final day, the Purple and Gold finished strong, going 2-0 to secure a ninth-place finish.
To kick things off, Loras defeated No. 11-ranked Alvernia University, 32-11.
Wiley Jessup (133 lbs) and
Allen Catour (157 lbs) both had decision wins, the Fiser brothers majored their competitors, while Egbon (pin), Bohren (forfeit), and Watson (forfeit) picked up six team points.
In their final dual, the Duhawks beat No. 8-ranked The College of New Jersey, 26-12. Evans, Kinkaid, and Gnida had decisions, Walker collected a tech fall, while
Connor Fiser and Bohren both had pins.
The Purple and Gold return to the mat when they dual Central College on Thursday, Jan. 16 in Pella, Iowa. Wrestling is slated to start at 6:30 p.m.            Â
