Duhawks Take Down Kohawks, 20-15, on Iowa PBS

January 22, 2025

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Loras College men's wrestling team emerged victorious last night as they edged out a 20-15 victory over No. 6-ranked Coe College in a thrilling, intense dual aired live on Iowa PBS.

At 125 pounds, Connor Fiser gave the Duhawks an explosive start with a commanding 16-5 major decision to put Loras on the board first. Coe quickly responded at 133 pounds, but Kolten Crawford (141 lbs) gave Loras a pivotal edge, earning a hard-fought 4-2 decision.

However, Coe answered at 149 pounds to put the Kohawks within striking distance. Yet, the Purple and Gold gained momentum back again as Eric Kinkaid (157 lbs) delivered a dominant 13-0 major decision, putting the Duhawks ahead 11-7 heading into intermission.

After a short 10-minute break, Dustin Bohren followed suit at 165 pounds, securing a solid 7-3 decision. Zeb Gnida (174 lbs) added another critical victory for Loras with a nail-biting 4-2 decision, pushing the team score to 17-7 in favor of the Purple and Gold.

The Kohawks refused to go down without a fight, picking up back-to-back major decisions at 184 and 197 pounds to narrow the gap to 17-15.

The heavyweight bout proved to be the final decider. Fortunately, Jonah Clark came through for the Duhawks, sealing the dual with a 7-3 decision.

Loras' next competition is this Saturday, Jan. 25, as they travel to Indianola, Iowa, for the American Rivers Conference Duals. Action begins at 9 a.m.
