DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team defeated the Beavers of Buena Vista University 85-67 to collect its second consecutive conference win of the season.
In the early minutes of the first quarter, Loras (5-8,2-2) would go on a 5-0 run and would lead 13-3. Buena Vista (5-8,0-4) would answer, but it just wasn't enough as the Duhawks would lead 22-11 headed into the second quarter.
Loras would pick up right where they left off in the second quarter and would continue to increase their lead by 16 points by a score of 40-24. The Beavers would cut the lead down and make the score 35-45 putting themselves within 10 points as both teams headed for the locker room.
A pair of 3-0 and 4-0 runs in the second half would help the Duhawks stay in front as they would lead by a game high of 21 points with 50 seconds remaining in the contest to secure the dominating victory.
For the Purple and Gold
Claire Wagner led the way with 24 points on the night in addition to a career-high 15 rebounds, one assist and a steal. A trio of Duhawks finished the night in double-digits,
Ashtyn Kelderman,
Silvana Scarsella, and
Kylie Rigby each scored 16, 15, and 14 points apiece. Kelderman pulled down four rebounds, dished out two assists and collected two blocks and a steal. Scarsella collected eight rebounds, four assists, and one steal while Rigby earned two rebounds and two assists. As a team the Duhawks shot 39.0 (30-77) percent from the floor and 65.0 (13-20) from the free throw line.
Bradi Krager paced the Beavers with 14 points along with nine rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Three other members of the team scored in double figures, McKenna Scott, Danika Demers, and Tyme Boettcher recorded 14, 12, and 10 points on the night for Buena Vista. Scott also secured four rebounds, one assist and a block. Demers grabbed nine rebounds and collected four assists. Boettcher had five rebounds and one steal. The Beavers shot 36.4 (24-66) from the field and 90.0 (9-10) percent from the charity stripe.
