DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Loras College women's soccer team came up short in a 2–1 loss to crosstown rival University of Dubuque on Tuesday evening at the Rock Bowl.

University of Dubuque (8-1-6, 5-0-1 A-R-C) struck early when Bree Swenson converted a pass from Virginia Speltz in the seventh minute to give the Spartans a 1–0 lead.

Loras (13-1-1, 6-1-0) leveled the match early in the second half as Emerson Gasmann scored in the 51st minute for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

However, the Spartans responded less than two minutes later on a corner kick goal by Riley Trudeau, assisted by Claire Husnick, to regain the advantage.

The Duhawks outshot Dubuque 16–10, but the Spartans held a 7–6 advantage in shots on goal as goalkeeper Samantha Jurgens made five saves to secure the win.

Up next: The Purple and Gold will travel to Pella, Iowa to take on the Dutch of Central College on Tuesday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
