DUBUQUE, IOWA - The Loras College football team dropped its fourth game of the season against No. 18-ranked Central College, 45-27.
Â
Loras (0-4 overall, 0-2 A-R-C) was unable to bring the first half momentum into the second half, as Central (4-0, 2-0) rallied in the second half.
Â
Both the Loras offense and defense were slow to start the game, as Central got out to an early seven-point lead on its first offensive drive, following a
Daniel Giusto punt that pinned the Dutch at their own two-yard line.
Â
Loras and Central traded punts on their ensuing drives, but a seven-play, 60-yard drive by the Duhawks, culminating in a
Myles Schumacher three-yard rushing touchdown, knotted the teams at seven apiece.
Â
The Loras defense continued its dominance, recovering a Dutch fumble, but Loras handed the ball right back on the next play after
Will Phillips' pass was intercepted.
Â
It continued to be a stalemate as there were a pair of punts, before
Aiden Konig nailed a 31-yard field goal to give the Duhawks their first lead of the afternoon.
Â
After Central retook the lead on a Hunter Hoffman touchdown pass, the Duhawks took it 75 yards, as Schumacher scampered into the end zone for a five-yard touchdown.
Â
On the ensuing drive,
Cormaic Flynn took a Hoffman pass the other direction, resulting in a Loras punt. The two defenses continued to limit the opposing offenses until a
Braxten Johnson interception put the Duhawks into field goal range before half, with Konig hitting a 30-yard field goal.
Â
Loras went into the halftime break up 20-14.
Â
Loras' first half momentum did not carry over as the Duhawks found themselves giving up a first drive touchdown to the Dutch, followed by a Loras interception, which led to another Dutch touchdown.
Â
This trend continued until the Duhawks were able to find themselves in the end zone, thanks to a
Jacob Richtman four-yard touchdown pass.
Â
Phillips completed 20-of-42 passing attempts for 172 yards.
Carter Cahill ended with 18 carries to the tune of 69 yards.
Micah Hendricks led all Duhawk defenders with 14 tackles, while Flynn and Johnson each had an interception.
Â
Up Next: The Duhawks will hit the road again, traveling to Lincoln, Neb., for a matchup with the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves on Saturday, Oct. 11Â at 1 p.m.
