PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Behind one of the most balanced scoring attacks of the season, the Loras College women's basketball team defeated Lakeland University, 69-56, on Friday night inside Woltzen Gymnasium.
The two teams traded baskets for the first five minutes of the game before a
Kylie Rigby three gave the Duhawks (2-2) a 12-6 lead. Lakeland (0-4) fought their way back and trailed by two going into the second (16-14).
The Muskies opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run before back-to-back layups by
Claire Wagner and
Emma Thompson sparked a 15-3 Loras run that led to a 32-26 halftime lead.
After a closely played third quarter,
Kiah Davis gave the Purple and Gold momentum with a layup, followed by a three pointer to give her team a five-point lead (53-48) that they never gave up. The Duhawks capitalized from the free throw line, going 7-of-8 in the final minute.
Four Duhawks ended the game in double figures.
Ashtyn Kelderman, Wager, and Davis each had 12 points, while Lexie Beier added 10.
Emma Thompson finished with eight points and a game-high seven rebounds off the bench.
Loras bounced back from a poor shooting night last time out, shooting 50 percent (25-of-50) from the floor and 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from deep.
Lakeland was led by A.T. Bartlett who filled the stat sheet with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Jenna Shea followed with 11 points for the Muskies.
Up Next: Loras will return to action on Nov. 25 to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College. Tip-off from Lillis Court is scheduled for 7 p.m.
