EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The Loras College men's wrestling team competed in the UW-Eau Claire Super Quad on Thursday night, facing Augsburg University, UW-Eau Claire, and UW-Whitewater. The Duhawks experienced a mix of highs and challenges throughout the night, showcasing strong individual performances, while learning from tough competition.
Loras opened the night against No. 1-ranked Augsburg. The team got off to a strong start, with
Aidan Gruenenfelder earning a dominant tech fall at 125 lbs, winning 20-5.
Connor Fiser followed with a 4-3 decision at 133 lbs, giving Loras an early 8-0 lead. However, Augsburg came back in the middle weights, winning four consecutive matches from 141 to 165 lbs, swinging the momentum in their favor.
Dustin Bohren added a bright spot for the Duhawks with a 5-0 decision at 174 lbs, but Augsburg ultimately took the dual, 26-11.
In its second dual against host UW-Eau Claire, Loras rebounded impressively. The Duhawks dominated early, winning the first five matches, including a quick pin by
Eric Kinkaid at 157 lbs. Bohren and
Landry Barker added additional wins at 174 and 184 lbs, respectively, to help secure a convincing 29-9 victory.
The final dual of the evening against No. 6-ranked UW-Whitewater was a closely contested matchup, but the Duhawks came out on top. After dropping the first two matches at 125 and 133 lbs, Loras bounced back with dominant 15-0 tech fall performances from
Aaron Boone at 141 lbs and Kinkaid at 157 lbs. Bohren also secured a fall at 174 lbs, while
Kam Royster and
Jonah Clark added victories at 197 lbs and heavyweight.
