INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team came up short against the Simpson College Storm, 87-59, on Saturday afternoon inside Cowles Fieldhouse.
The Duhawks led by eight (12-4) midway through the opening quarter, but Simpson (3-3, 1-0 A-R-C) responded with an 8-0 run to tie the score up at 12-12 through 10 minutes of play.
A three-pointer from Taylor Hansen with 6:02 remaining in the second quarter put Storm in front for the rest of the contest. Loras (3-4, 0-2) trailed by 12 (40-28) at the half.
The home team outscored the Duhawks 47-31 in the second half to earn its first conference win of the season.
Claire Wagner led the way for the Purple and Gold with 13 points.
Kylie Rigby added in 12 of her own, while
Kiah Davis and
Ashtyn Kelderman finished with eight points each. As a team, Loras shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the floor and 42.3 percent (11-of-26) from three.
Maddaz DeVault paced the Storm offense with a game-high 20 points. Hansen totaled 12 points on the night, while Ella Anderson tallied the game's lone double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Morgan Christian and Elle Street rounded out the double-digit scorers for Simpson with 10 points apiece. As a team, the Storm shot 60.8 percent (21-of-51) from the field and 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from downtown.
