Duhawks Battle Knights in Season Finale

WAVERLY, Iowa - The Loras College men's wrestling team fought hard tonight to conclude the season against Wartburg College in an exciting dual that came down to the final few matches. Despite winning five out of 10 matches, the Duhawks fell short, dropping a 20-15 decision to the Knights.

The dual started in favor of the Purple and Gold at 125 pounds, Connor Fiser secured a hard-fought 5-3 decision to put Loras on the board. Aiden Evans (133 lbs) followed up with another solid win, encompassing a 9-6 decision to give the Duhawks an early 6-0 lead.

Wartburg responded at 141 and 149 lbs, picking up back-to-back decision victories and tying up the team score. The Duhawks regained momentum when Eric Kinkaid (157 lbs) earned a 4-0 shutout decision.

Dustin Bohren kept the energy going at 165 lbs with a 5-2 victory, followed by Zeb Gnida (174 lbs) getting a 4-1 win to push Loras ahead, 15-6.

However, the tide turned in Wartburg's favor in the upper weights, delivering a tech fall at 184 pounds. The momentum continued at 197 lbs as they picked up a pin, giving Wartburg a 17-15 lead.

With the dual on the line at heavyweight division, the Knights eked out a 2-0 decision to secure the 20-15 victory.

Up Next: The Duhawks turn the focus to the postseason as they prepare for NCAA Regionals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from Friday, Feb. 28- Saturday, March 1. Action is slated to start at 9:00 a.m.
