DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team came up short against the Storm of Simpson College on Sunday afternoon on Lillis Court.
At the start Simpson (14-10, 10-5 A-R-C) went on a 5-0 run and would lead 13-2 before a layup by
Lexi Beier helped end the scoring streak for the Storm. The Duhawks would come within four points after a halfcourt heave from
Daniella Jarrell would beat the buzzer headed into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, The Storm poured it on, outscoring the Duhawks 22-5 as the first half wrapped up with the Duhawks down by 21 with 20 minutes to go.
In the third quarter, the Duhawks started to gain momentum offensively, scoring 22 points in the quarter, but Simpson answered with 21 of their own to maintain a comfortable advantage heading into the fourth, ultimately sealing the win with a 20-12 edge in the final 10 minutes of play.
Molly Lutmer led the way for the Storm, scoring a game-high 24 points while also grabbing eight rebounds, an assist and a steal. Haley Rasmussen, Ella Anderson, and Doryn Paup each added 10 points respectively. As a team the visitors shot 43.9 percent (29-of-66) from the floor and 83.3 percent (15-of-18) from the line.
Silvana Scarsella and
Emerson Whittenbaugh each contributed 11 points on the night. Scarsella earned eight rebounds, dished out two assists and two steals while Whittenbaugh secured four rebounds, two steals and an assist. As a team Loras shot 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the field and 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the charity stripe.
