DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's volleyball team extended its win streak to six with a 3-1 victory over North Park University on Tuesday night inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Duhawks benefited from a North Park (7-6, 0-1 CCIW) attack error to break the final tie (4-4) of the opening set. Loras (7-1, 1-0) led by as many as 11 en route to a decisive 25-15 set one win.
The Purple and Gold rattled off five straight points to start the second set, taking an early 5-1 lead. The Duhawks increased their lead to seven (15-8) midway through the set, but the Vikings responded with an 8-1 run to knot the score up at 16-16. Loras closed out the set with a 9-5 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match with the 25-21 set two victory.
The Duhawks dominated in the beginning of the third set, scoring seven consecutive points to take a 15-6 lead. The visitors answered back with a 6-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to just three (15-12). The Vikings tied the score up at 19-19 following a kill from Gerald Malana. The set saw three more ties before North Park grabbed the set three win with another kill from Malana.
Neither team led by more than three the entirety of the final set. A Vikings service error, a
Roman Rothermel block and a
Nolan Krygsheld kill gave the Duhawks the final three points of the match to take the set by a score of 25-21.
Corey Mayotte paced the Loras offense, finishing with 20 kills and a .385 hitting percentage.
Connor Jaral and Krygsheld registered 11 and 10 kills respectively, while
Evan Dziadkowiec handed out 49 assists on the night. As a team, the Purple and Gold hit .389, totaling 57 kills and 13 errors in 113 attempts.
Ty Ingrao led the way for the Vikings with 15 kills. Malana added in 11 kills as well as a match-high nine digs. North Park hit .252, tallying 48 kills and 22 errors in 103 attempts.
