DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Loras College women's basketball team came up just short in its final regular season game, falling 63-62 to cross-town rival University of Dubuque on Saturday afternoon at Stoltz Sports Center.
The Duhawks (9-16, 6-10 A-R-C) struck first with an Emerson Whittenbaugh jumper, and the teams traded baskets throughout a high-scoring first quarter, ending tied at 20. Dubuque (10-15, 7-9) gained control in the second, outscoring Loras 12-7 to take a 32-27 lead into halftime.
Loras responded with an 18-point third quarter, but Dubuque's defense held strong in the final minutes to secure the victory.
Morgan Hawkins led the Spartans with 16 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Kaitlyn Powell added 12 points and two rebounds, while Isabella Tierney chipped in 10 points, five boards, and three steals. Dubuque shot 41.4% (24-of-58) from the field and 71.4% (10-of-14) from the free-throw line.
Claire Wagner paced Loras with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Whittenbaugh contributed 10 points and a steal. The Duhawks shot 47.1% (24-of-51) from the floor and 76.9% (10-of-13) from the line.
The loss marks the end of the 2024-25 season for Loras College women's basketball team.
