Four Duhawks Earn All-Conference Honors

May 14, 2025

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Loras was once again well-represented on the American Rivers Conference All-Conference teams, as three Duhawks were named to the First Team, and one as an Honorable Mention as released by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Jackson Cullen repeated as a First Team All-Conference selection for the Purple and Gold. The Joliet, Ill. native slashed .354/.449/.475 in conference and finished top 10 in multiple offensive categories, including hits (35), RBIs (22), and runs (28).  The junior also recorded a career-high in stolen bases, swiping six across Loras' 24 conference contests. Cullen was a consistent contributor throughout the year, but his magnum opus came in a win against Simpson College on April 12, where he was responsible for plating nine Duhawk runs and single-handedly matching the Storm's offensive output during a 20-9 route at Petrakis Park.

Vince Polizzi snagged First Team All-Conference honors, displaying a level of growth from the junior after he was named to the Second Team a season ago. The Naperville, Ill. native amassed an eye-popping 10 home runs and 31 RBIs in conference, both of which ranked in the top three among all positions. In his first full year at the designated hitter position, Polizzi thrived, and his 11 total long balls ranked second best in a single season in school history. He bashed three of those in a series against Coe College, guiding Loras to a victory against a ranked Kohawk squad on April 26, 6-5.

Polizzi had some words regarding his All-Conference selection and his upcoming senior season.

"It was awesome hearing the news about All-Conference, and I want to say hats off to the others that got on too," said Polizzi. "The season didn't go how we wanted, but we return guys with plenty of experience and talent. I couldn't be more excited to run it back next year."

Trevor Segraves rounded out Loras' representation on the First Team. A veteran presence for the Purple and Gold, Segraves notched a team-best .379 batting average in conference play, and ranked top five for numerous offensive statistics, including hits (36), doubles (9), and batting average. The Valencia, Calif. native broke out in his senior campaign, notably smacking a pair of home runs that not only were the first of his Loras career, but the first of his life. Segraves' capstone performance took place against Wartburg College on March 28, where he plated seven total runs, hit two doubles, and led the Purple and Gold to a dominating 17-5 victory.

Segraves also obliged to comment on his selection.

"First off, I want to thank the coaching staff for everything," said Segraves. "I owe a lot to them for this honor, and they did a lot for me. Second, I'd like to thank my teammates. With how long the season is, it was nice to have them by my side. It was a fun year, and a great run, I really couldn't be prouder to have been a Duhawk."

Cody Sunny once again found himself as an All-Conference honoree, earning an Honorable Mention nod for the second time in his three seasons at Loras. Sunny made the move from corner to corner, as the primary third baseman anchored first base during his junior year. The Eldridge, Iowa native held his own and recorded a .325/.438/.494 slash line, while maintaining his signature style of finding ways on base. Sunny managed a 13-game hit-streak spanning from April 8 – May 2, which included four multi-hit performances, and he recorded career-highs in doubles (14), and triples (3).

Loras ended the year 19-21 and 9-15 in American Rivers Conference play, narrowly missing the conference tournament. Sunny, Polizzi, and Cullen will all reprise their roles in 2026, with Segraves being the lone senior named to the All-Conference team.
