Bourne Breaks School Record, Leitzen Wins Debut at Bob Schultz Invite

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's and women's cross country teams turned in strong performances on their home course Friday evening at the Bob Schultz Invite, with the men finishing first and the women taking second.
 
On the men's side, Isaac Bourne highlighted the meet with a record-breaking performance, winning the 5k in 14:56.8 seconds to set a new school record. Eric Rutherford followed in second at 15:20.4, and Ryan McGrath placed fourth in 15:29.0 to round out the top five.
 
Also scoring for the Duhawks were Jack Beehler (7th, 15:48.2), Colby Cryer (9th, 15:52.6), Evan Schlichting (12th, 16:12.5) and Brayden Frey (13th, 16:14.3).
 
In the women's race, sophomore Keelee Leitzen made her Duhawk debut in impressive fashion, winning the 5k in 18:54.0. Bailey Vaughan followed close behind in third at 18:58.4, while Paige Jacobs placed eighth in 19:31.3.
 
Additional scorers for the Purple and Gold included Ivy Glendening (11th, 19:50.9), Lily Molloy (15th, 20:01.3), Lylli Jorgenson (23rd, 20:34.8) and Savannah Davis (26th, 20:34.8).
 
Up next: Loras will compete at the Bradley Intercollegiate in Peoria, Ill., on Friday, Sept. 19. The men's race begins at 5:15 p.m., followed by the women's race at 6 p.m.
