DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's basketball team soared past the Buena Vista Beavers, 96-69, this Saturday on the back of Johnny Semany's 26-point performance as well as three other Duhawks finishing in double figures.
Both teams traded baskets in the first half with the Beavers (9-5 Overall, 2-3 American Rivers Conference) holding the lead for the majority of the first half. The Duhawks (12-3, 6-0) struggled to shoot the ball effectively in the first half, finishing 8-of-25 from beyond the arc and headed into the halftime break tied with the Beavers at 41.
Coming out of halftime, the Duhawks took charge early, starting with a huge momentum three-pointer from senior Gavin Sarvis, followed by some lights-out shooting from Junior Johnny Semany who hit four threes in a row to start the second half. Semany went on to finish the game 9-of-16 from the field and 6-of-11 from beyond the arc.
Semany's 26 points were a game-high while Sarvis followed with 17 points. Seniors Dylan Kurt and Jack Haynes added 13 and 11 points respectively. As a team, the Duhawks shot 50.7 percent (34-of-67) from the field and 41.9 percent (18-of-43) from deep.
The Beavers were led by junior guard Carter Sievers who pitched in 19 points, followed by Adam Bryte with 11 and August Hubbard with 10 on 100% shooting.
Up Next: The Duhawks will travel to Decorah, Iowa for an A-R-C matchup against the Luther College Norse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
