2026 Loras College Athletics Hall of Fame Spotlight: Paul Meintzer

October 9, 2026

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Former Loras men's wrestling standout Paul Meintzer will be inducted into the Loras College Athletics Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2026. He will be honored alongside four other inductees during the ceremony on Friday, Oct. 9 inside the Alumni Campus Center ballroom.

"It is an honor for me to be inducted, as it was an honor to wrestle for Loras college." Meintzer said. "The integrity of lifelong friends I made through these teams, and especially Coach Flanagan, greatly influenced the path my life took."

Meintzer wrestled for Loras in the late 60s and was the first Loras wrestler to travel to NAIA Nationals in 1968. There, Mintzer placed 7th in a weight class with over 40 competitors. Meintzer finished his Duhawk career with a 44-12 record, which is good for a .786 career winning percentage in two and a half years with the team.

Now, Meintzer helps with his concrete construction business, that he started 53 years ago. Meintzer has also been coaching high school and now middle school wrestling for the past 46 years, teaching techniques and coaching styles that he learned from teammates and coach Flanagan.

Paul and his wife, Rita, reside in Deerfield, Ill.
