DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team picked up a much needed 72-61 win over the Central College Dutch on Wednesday night on Lillis Court.
Loras (8-13 overall, 4-8 American Rivers Conference) raced out to a 11-2 lead three minutes into the game thanks to two three-pointers from
Kylie Rigby and a three from
Ashtyn Kelderman. The Dutch (8-12, 3-8) responded with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to two (13-11) and trailed by three after the first.
Over the first five minutes of the second period, the Duhawks went on a 11-0 run to take a 16-point lead (30-14) midway through the frame and ultimately took a 38-24 lead into halftime.
Central came out of the break hot, cutting the Duhawk lead to five after Abbey Bence connected on a three. Rigby stopped the bleeding with a three the following possession, and then connected on another three with 33 second left in the quarter to give her team a eight-point lead going into the final period.
The Duhawks never let the lead get below seven in the final period and connected on 10-of-12 free throws in the final 10 minutes to secure the win.
Kelderman paced the Purple and Gold with a game-high 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting and also grabbed five rebounds. Rigby followed with 14, knocking down four three-pointers on the night. Wagner added 12 points and had a game-high eight rebounds.
The Dutch were led by Moore, who had 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Maddie Backer added 13, while Emily Naughton finished with 10.
Up Next: Loras will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 7, to take on the Coe College Kohawks. Tip-off from Kohawk Arena is set for 2 p.m.
