CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Loras College women's basketball team came up short against the Coe College Kohawks, 73-65, Saturday afternoon inside Kohawk Arena.
Loras (8-14 overall, 4-9 American Rivers Conference) jumped out to an early lead against the A-R-C leaders with an old fashioned three-point play from
Ashtyn Kelderman and led by four (10-6) midway through the first. The Kohawks (18-4, 12-1) used a 6-0 run over the last minute and a half and held a 13-12 lead after the first period.
A three from Laiken Haas gave Coe their largest lead of the half (nine) after her three at the 5:06 mark in the second.
Macy Harnden provided a 5-0 run by herself to cut into the Coe lead but the Duhawks ultimately trailed by seven going into halftime.
Trailing by 12 going into the final 10 minutes,
Kiah Davis cut the Kohawk lead to just five after a layup three minutes into the frame. A quick 7-0 run by the home team got their lead back to double-digits and a pair of free throws from Taryn Kravig closed the door on a Loras comeback attempt.
Davis led all Duhawk scorers with a career-high 21 points, shooting 10-of-13 from the field. Kelderman followed with 10 points, while Harnden added a season-high nine points in her first career start in the Purple and Gold.
