ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Loras College men's volleyball team defeated the Augustana College Vikings in four sets on Wednesday evening inside the Roy J. Carver Center.
Augustana (8-8, 2-5 CCIW) started off strong, holding the lead until the Duhawks tied the score up at 15-15. A pair of Viking errors to close out the set gave Loras (16-4, 2-3) a 25-23 set one win.
The Duhawks stayed in front for a majority of the second set, but an 8-1 run by the home team to end the set gave the Vikings a 25-20 set two win.
The two teams battled back-and-forth in the first half of the third set, but a 6-1 run by the Purple and Gold put the Duhawks ahead, 21-15. Loras took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-19 set three win.
In the final set, the Duhawks led by as many as 10, but the Vikings cut the lead to six (20-14) after a 5-1 run. A kill from Elijiah Passey sealed the 25-18 set four win for Loras.
Roman Rothermel led the way for the Purple and Gold with 14 kills and four blocks. Bo Brainerd III put down double-digit kills as well, finishing the match with 11, in addition to tallying three service aces, while Evan Dziadkowiec handed out 39 assists. As a team, Loras hit .254, which featured 46 kills and 15 errors in 122 attempts.
The Vikings were led by Aidan Bolen who totaled 19 kills and eight digs, while Colin Schaefer posted a team-high 16 digs to go along with 40 assists. As a team, Augustana hit .181, finishing with 49 kills and 26 errors in 127 attempts.
