CHICAGO, Ill. – The No. 10-ranked Loras College men's volleyball team swept the North Park University Vikings in a CCIW conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
After going down 2-0 early in the first set, North Park (1-22, 0-8 CCIW) responded with a 6-2 run that would give it a two-point (6-4) lead. Loras (18-5, 4-4) answered back with an 8-3 run of its own to make the score 12-9 in favor of the Purple and Gold. The first set continued to be hotly contested, but a burst of Duhawk offense allowed them to pull away with a 25-18 first set victory thanks to back-to-back service aces by
Evan Dziadkowiec paired with a Viking attack error.
North Park jumped out to a 15-8 lead to start the second set. The Vikings were then able to extend this lead to seven (20-13). The Duhawks exploded offensively, igniting a 12-3 run that gave them a 25-23 second set victory in an impressive comeback.
The third and final set was closely contested, with neither team able to hold a lead greater than two. A 4-0 Duhawk run gave the Purple and Gold a 16-12 lead about halfway through the set. The Duhawks proceeded to go on another 4-0 run, capped off by a
Bo Brainerd III kill, to give them a 20-13 lead. The third set ended with yet another Loras run, this time it was a 5-3 run to secure the sweep with a 25-16 victory.
The Purple and Gold were led by Brainerd III who posted eight kills to go along with four digs and two blocks.
Anthony Schwarz followed with six kills and one dig, while Dziadkowiec contributed 24 assists, four kills, four blocks, and seven digs.
Up Next: The Duhawks are slated to take on the Vikings of Augustana College inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center on Wednesday, April 1. First serve is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
