PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Loras College men's track and field team competed at the UW-Platteville Invitational this weekend, making the short trip to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for the two-day meet on April 10-11.
Isaac Bourne delivered a record-breaking performance to lead the Duhawks, resetting his own school record in the 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 14:05.16, which ranks ninth in Division III this season.
In the field events, Carter Allen highlighted the weekend with a first place finish in discus, posting a season-best mark of 50.55 meters. Tre'jon Igess also turned in a notable performance, moving up to third on the Loras all-time list in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 14.13 meters to place fourth.
On the track, Loras saw a strong showing in the sprints, beginning in the 100 meters where Charlie Irwin recorded a season-best 11.22. Louis Zeitler (11.38), Igess (11.57) and James Kostomiris (12.40) each posted personal-best times, while Blake Fitzgerrel added a season-best 11.72. In the 200 meters, Zeke Irving led the way with a personal-best 22.07, followed by personal-best efforts from Irwin (22.98), Logan Day (23.26), Jonah Irving (23.28) and Kostomiris (24.94).
The 400 meters produced another strong set of results, as Ian Fagan placed third with a season-best time of 48.69, while Casey Tath followed closely with a personal-best 48.82. Jonah Irving also added a personal-best mark of 54.19.
In the middle-distance events, Enoch Thielhelm led the 800 meters with a personal-best 1:58.63, while Vince Frederiksen (2:03.37) and Ethan Stasch (2:16.38) also recorded personal-best times and Everett McDonald added a season-best 2:13.06. In the 1,500 meters, Aiden Ruiz paced the group with a third-place finish and a personal-best 3:56.99. Gavin Denholm (4:14.06), McDonald (4:35.14) and Stasch (4:35.91) each added personal-best performances.
The distance group continued to excel in the 5,000 meters, where four Duhawks broke the 15-minute mark. Max Lowe led the group with a personal-best 14:44.44, followed by Jack Beehler (14:53.83), Colby Cryer (14:54.93) and Cameron Gotto (14:56.51), all with personal-best times. Eric Rutherford recorded a season-best 15:25.40, while Brayden Frey (15:29.02), Ryan McGrath (15:29.25), Evan Schlichting (15:29.40), Logan Hoger (15:58.53), Jack Ruswick (16:24.65) and Ben Ritter (16:46.11) each added personal-best efforts.
In the hurdles, Owen Scherff posted a season-best 17.07 in the 110-meter hurdles. Owen Leitzen led the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 58.28, while Matt Kruse added a season-best 1:01.90 and Matthew Hanselman recorded a personal-best 1:02.97.
Liam Lentz delivered a third place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with a personal-best time of 9:48.36.
The relay teams also turned in strong performances, as the 4x100-meter relay team of Tath, Zeke Irving, Fagan and Daken Pessman finished second in 41.72. The second team of Zeitler, Isaac Oster, Day and Irwin recorded a personal-best 44.01. In the 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Fagan, Zeke Irving, Casey Tath and Matt Kruse posted a personal-best time of 3:24.34.
In the throws, DreAnthony Jackson placed second in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 16.84 meters, while Ted Dost added a personal-best 29.06 meters in discus. Allen also contributed a season-best mark of 52.30 meters in the hammer throw.
In the jumps, Liam Kelso followed with a personal-best mark of 6.56 meters, while Logan Day added a personal-best leap of 6.00 meters and Daken Pessman tied his outdoor personal best in the long jump with a mark of 6.63 meters.
Up Next: The Duhawks will travel to Rock Island, Ill., to compete at the Augustana Meet of Champions, hosted by Augustana College, on Friday, April 17 through Saturday, April 18.
