Jeremy Thornburg

Jeremy Thornburg is the first men's volleyball head coach in school history and concluded his sixth season at the helm of the Duhawks in 2020. In addition to his responsibilities with the men's volleyball program, Thornburg is the SAAC advisor for Loras and a member of the strategic planning council.

In his first season as the head coach, the Duhawks posted a 10-16 record and continued to help the program grow to earn its first Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) tournament berth in 2018. The Duhawks upset the No. 1 seed team as the No. 4 team and landed two players on the MCVL All-Conference team with Alfredo Lopez and Dylan Ross earning Second Team honors. In 2019, Loras tallied the program's best record of 21-7 and qualified as the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament. Mihajlo Gomez and Grant Ooms earned First Team accolades and Patrick Hollander was a Second Team honoree.

The most recent season for Thornburg and the Duhawks ended early due to the COVID-19 global health crisis, but the Duhawks posted a 9-7 record and saw freshman Dorian Fiorenza land a spot on the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) First Team All-Conference team and Andres Martinez earn Second Team honors.

Thornburg continues coaching in the summers, bringing home multiple awards. He was the 2016 USA Volleybakl, Iowa Region Meritorious Service Award winner for his growth of the boys program in the region and has been successful with both the USA Boys Select A3 program in Chicago and the USA Volleyball Boys Select Continental Championships in 2018. During the summer of 2015, Thornburg was the head coach for the Iowa Region Boys Youth National Team at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships. Thornburg also served as the assistant coach for the Loras women's volleyball team in the fall of 2015, helping lead the Duhawks to a 22-13 overall record and second place finish in the Iowa Conference, including an appearance in the tournament championship match.

Most recently, Thornburg was the assistant coach at Eckerd College under head coach Michelle Piantadosi. The Tritons finished second in the Sunshine State Conference with a 20-10 record and earned the No. 3 seed in the 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Volleyball Tournament.

Thornburg spent one season as assistant coach at Arkansas State University, working under head coach David Rehr for the 2012 season. While at Arkansas State, Thornburg worked directly with the backcourt defense and libero positions as well as team scouting. The Red Wolves finished the season with a 19-14 record and had two student-athletes named All-Sun Belt Conference selections.

Thornburg is a graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) in Fort Wayne, Ind. As an undergraduate student and following his studies at IPFW, Thornburg served as a student assistant and team manager under American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame head coach Arnie Ball. In 2006 and 2007, the IPFW Mastodons reached the Final Four, finishing as national runners-up in 2007. Thornbug was inducted in to the Fort Wayne Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017 as a member of the 2007 national runner-up team.

A native of Mishawaka, Indiana, Thornburg now resides in Dubuque.
