Women's Volleyball Swept by Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Duhawks.com) – With hopes of building off their success that the NACC-IIACC Crossover Challenge, the Duhawks traveled to Coe College on Wednesday night, chasing their first Iowa Conference win of the season. Loras' efforts fell short as the Kohawks kept them from establishing a rhythm and handed them the loss, 3-0.

After trailing early on, a kill from junior Taylor Serrano was followed by a kill from junior Kara Kentner, giving the Duhawks the lead, 12-10. With the momentum shifting in favor of Loras, the Kohawks called a timeout. The pause in play proved to be deadly for the Duhawks momentum swing, as Coe closed the set on a 15-5 run to take it, 25-17.

In the second set, it looked as though the Duhawks were going to level the match at one, leading 20-18 late. After a timeout by Coe, back-to-back kills by Serrano put Loras in front 23-22. Once again however, the Kohawks stalled the Loras attack to take set two, 25-23.

An early deficit plagued the Duhawks in the third set, as they trailed by as many as ten before falling 25-17. With the set win, Coe took the match 3-0.

The Duhawks fall to 9-12 overall and remain winless in the Iowa Conference (0-3).

Match Changer
The second set proved to be pivotal, as the Duhawks struggles carried over to the third. Unable to get in a groove, the Duhawks put themselves behind early allowing Coe to take the set.
 
Key Stat
The aggressive serving of Coe, made it difficult for the Duhawks to stay in system. The Kohawks held a 12-1 advantage in serving aces for the match.
 
Notables
  • Kennedy and Serrano continued their outstanding play in the middle, hitting .433 as a duo.
  • The Duhawks recorded just one ace in the match, their least since September 19 against St. Catherine.
  • As a team, Loras hit .250, their highest in a loss this season.
  • Loras tallied just 30 digs in match, a season-low.
