PREVIEWING THE SPARTANS …The Duhawks continue their pursuit of a berth in the Iowa Conference Tournament on Wednesday when they take on the University of Dubuque. The Spartans will enter the Athletic & Wellness Center on a three-game losing streak after falling to Millikin University, UW-Plattville, and Wheaton College over the weekend. Klaudia Basierak leads the Spartans in conference play, leading the team in hitting percentage (.220), kills (79), and digs (53). With the Spartans holding a record of 2-4 in Iowa Conference play, the loser of the match will be on the outside looking in when it comes to tournament time.
COURTNEY BOYD NIGHT ...As the lone senior on the 2014 roster, the Duahwks will celebrate the career of senior
Courtney Boyd on Wednesday night. In her four years doning the purple and gold, Boyd has become a leader on the court and in the classroom while fuling embracing life as a Duhawk.
PAIR OF DUHAWKS EARN ALL-TOURNAMENT NOD …Freshman libero
Haley Bergan was named to the UW-Oshkosh Titan Classic All-Tournament team after posting 28 digs in Loras' upset of 14th ranked Carthage College. In each of Loras' five games last week, Bergan posted at least 20 kills, finishing with 122. She now has 495 digs on the season. Kentner also earned the honor, tallying 45 kills, 87 assists, and 40 digs on the weekend. Bergan was also named IIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week and the Duhawks' Champpion of the Week.
DUHAWKS TOP NO. 14 CARTHAGE …In their first match at the Titan Classic, Loras faced off against the Lady Reds of Carthage. After falling behind 2-0 in the match, the Duhawks bounced back to take the next three sets to earn the win. The victory marked the first time Loras has beaten a ranked opponent since the 2006 season when they beat No. 23 Coe College.
NO ROOM FOR ERROR ...As the regular season winds down, the Duhawks have left little room for error if they hope to earn a berth in the 2014 Iowa Conference Tournament. While a win over Dubuque on its own will not gaurantee the Duhawks a spot in the conference tournament, it is necessary.
KENTNER TIES LORAS RECORD...At the Loras Invite, junior
Kara Kentner tied the Loras record for hitting percentage in a game. Last season,
Danni Kennedy hit an identifcal 14 kills in 16 attacks for the .875 percentage. That mark edges out Brittney Westermeyer who hit .733 against Ripon in the 2010 season.
