DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) – The Loras College Men's Basketball renewed their nearly century old rivalry with UW-Platteville on Saturday night, meeting for the first time in the Athletic & Wellness Center. On a night where the Duhawks couldn't get their shots to fall, the Pioneers jumped out to an early lead and never let go, handing the Duhawks a 68-51 loss.
On Loras' first possession, junior
Justin Schneider turned it over which kick started the 7-0 run for the Pioneers. Once Loras got their first basket, they inched their way back, cutting the deficit to four with 12:51 to go in the first half. That would be the closest Loras would come the rest of the contest, as UW-Platteville went on a 12-4 run and never looked back.
The Pioneers finished the first half shooting 13-of-29 from the floor, operating at a 50 percent clip from distance. Loras, on the other hand, never really got their offense going in the opening frame, missing 20 of their 31 field goal attempts. Senior
Aaron Schueller finished the first half in uncharacteristic fashion, going 0-for-6 from the floor.
As a team who had not seen game action in 10 days, the Duhawks struggled to shake off the cobwebs. Their 61.5 percent mark from the free-throw line was the most efficient means of scoring for Loras, as they finished at 25 percent from beyond the arc and 34.5 percent from the floor.
Despite UW-Platteville only converting two 3-pointers in the second half, compared to their seven in the first half, Loras could never fully grab the momentum. Starting with a 13-point margin, the Pioneers eventually stretched the gap to 23 with 2:37 to go in the game.
With the loss, the Duhawks fall to 3-4 on the year and drop their second straight game.
Game ChangerThe Pioneers shot 50 percent from beyond the arc in the first half, using seven three-pointers to gain a 13 point advantage at halftime.
Key StatUW-Platteville held the advantage in field goal percentage, shooting 44.2 percent compared to Loras' season-low 34.5 percent.

Bobby Harmening, senior guard"We have to take away what we did well and what we didn't do well and look at this as a learning experience. Our main goal is a conference championship, so we're going to learn from what we did right and we did wrong and move on forward."
