Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men’s Volleyball Bounced by Culver-Stockton

CANTON, Mo. (Duhawks.com) – Twenty-four hours after suffering a 3-2 setback to Lindenwood Belleville, the Loras Men's Volleyball team took the court for a showdown with Culver-Stockton. Three sets later, the Wildcats were 3-0 winners over the Duhawks.

Still on the hunt for their first win as a program, Loras (0-5) hoped to build off of their performance last night. Culver-Stockton had other plans for the night, opening the first set on a 15-5 run.

The middle hitters for the Wildcats were on point from the very start, disrupting the Loras attack and bouncing balls for kills. The first set saw the Duhawks commit six attacking errors and just eight kills, compared to the Wildcats' 16 kills and five errors.

Set two provided little relief for Loras as Culver-Stockton (4-5) continued to operate on high octane. Struggling once again on offense, the Duhawks executed poorly, resulting in nine attacking errors. While the Wildcats cooled off from their .423 hitting percentage in the first set, they still pumped in 10 kills at a .208 clip.

Early on, Loras held an early advantage at 5-4, but once again, Culver-Stockton's aggressive play resulted in a significant advantage. Loras cut the deficit to one at 16-15, but from there the Wildcats finished off set two on a 9-1 run to win 25-16.

Leading 2-0, Culver-Stockton kept their foot on the pedal to the tune of an 11-6 run to open set three. A timeout by head coach Jeremy Thornburg did little to slow the attack as the Wildcats continued to poor on the offense.

Trailing 17-9 in the third set, Loras pieced together a 6-3 run to make it 20-15. From there, the Wildcats finished off the set 25-17 to take the 3-0 match win.

Match Changer
From the opening serve, Culver-Stockton's aggressive on offense and ability to read Loras' offense caused all kinds of problems for the young Duhawk squad

"This first month has been about exposing our team to many new environments, situations, challenges and opportunities, and I think we did that. I really believe that there isn't much that we haven't seen now, and being a new team, that is what we needed to happen prior to our conference season."

"Our team is hungry and we will continue to work hard to get better and grow our new program, ensuring that we build a solid foundation for years to come."
