MINNEAPOLIS (Duhawks.com) - Two second half strikes from St. Thomas spoiled the interstate trip for the Loras men's soccer team, as the Tommies knocked off the 14th-ranked Duhawks, 2-1.

TURNING POINTAfter conceding the opening goal, Loras tightened their play in the midfield and started to find running lanes behind the Augsburg full backs. These runs eventually led to Loras' goals in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENEDA botched clearance by Loras' backline resulted in Augsburg possession in the attacking third. Marie Fitzgerald struck her shot from inside the box side-netting to put her side ahead early.
Although it took nearly 45 minutes of game play, Loras eventually equalized after sophomore
Gretchen Schutz worked her way in behind her mark and beat the keeper to the bouncing ball inside the penalty area, heading it home for the equalizer.
Reeling off the momentum from the tying goal, the Duhawk forwards continued their pressure and earned a throw-in deep in the Augsburg zone. Schutz found the head of junior
Madie Avery from eight yards out and flicked it to the back post and into the back of the net.

Madie Avery was a catalyst in the midfield for Loras, winning 50-50 balls and halting Augsburg offensive runs. After getting a late start to the season, Avery appears to be reaching top form as Loras winds down the regular season and prepares for the playoffs.
UP NEXTWith two regular season matches remaining in 2015, Loras turns their attention to wrapping up the Iowa Conference. The Duhawks are currently in fifth place, three points back of fourth and five points back of the conference leaders. Saturday, Loras travels to Storm Lake, Iowa and will go toe-to-toe with Buena Vista.
