Duhawks Handle Simpson in Straight Sets on Senior Night

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Duhawks.com) - The Loras women's volleyball team improved to 4-2 in Iowa Conference play and capped a perfect slate at home in the IIAC at 3-0. With just one regular season contest remaining, final seeds for the IIAC Tournament will come down to the final day. Currently, Loras sits in a tie for third place with Luther.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE •••

Trailing 13-11, Loras (17-11, 4-2) tore open the set with an 8-0 run on the back of sophomore Haley Bergan's serve. Even a timeout by Simpson (11-17, 0-6) couldn't slow Bergan and the Duhawks. A late five-point Simpson surge brought the set to 23-22 Loras before the Duhawks closed out the first game with a win, 25-22.

SET TWO •••
Simpson again jumped out to a fast start, but lost their momentum thanks to a 7-1 run. Five of Loras' seven points came via kill, while the Storm committed two attack errors in during the stretch. A three-point run by Simpson cut the Duhawk lead to one at 17-16, forcing a timeout from Loras. The stoppage turned the tides for the Duhawks who closed out set two on an 8-1 run to win 25-17.

SET THREE •••
It was Loras who came out of the gates firing in the third game, opening a 10-4 lead. Back-to-back kills from the Storm could only temporarily put a halt on Loras' offensive attack. Four more errors by Simpson extended the Duhawk lead to 16-7 and forced a timeout out of the Storm. Loras led by as many as nine at 19-9 before an 8-4 run by Simpson brought the sides to within six at 23-17. Jendra and junior Therese Schultz put the bow on the senior day extravaganza with back-to-back kills to win 25-17.

FRIEDMAN GROUP PLAYER OF THE GAME
Liz Jendra | In front of her friends and family on "Senior Night", Jendra shined in both facets of the game, recording team-highs in kills (12) and digs (16).

UP NEXT
