RIVER FOREST, Ill. (Duhawks.com) - The Loras Men's Volleyball program face a tough test Friday night, going up against No. 15 Dominican University. The Stars proved to be an elite force, cruising to a three-set victory (25-12, 25-16, 25-9). Freshman
Dylan Ross finished with eight kills to lead the Duhawks.
Never leading in the opening set, the Duhawks (3-19, 1-12) failed to find a rhythm on attack. Unfortunately for the Duhawks, Dominican (14-10, 9-4) hit a match-best .647 on their way to a 25-12 win and 1-0 lead in the match.
After hanging with the Stars in the early parts of sets two and three, inconsistent defense proved costly for the Duhawks. Strong serves by the Stars forced errant passes by Loras' backline, limiting the Duhawks' setters options when setting. While freshmen Dawid Kasprzak and Jimmy Combs had hot hands in the middle, freshmen setters Shayne Marquez and Danny Krasich were forced to push the ball outside.Â
With a majority of the sets going to the outside, Dominican's defense locked in. Unable to counteract the blocks of the Stars, the Duhawks dropped set two 25-16 before fading in set three, 25-9.
